London Olympics 2012 official song Survival. Tonight July 27, 2012, the opening ceremony will be seen by the US at 9pm east coast time. Elite athletes from all over the world complete together on the London stage, the largest athletic event in 2012.
I am very excited and will be glued to viewing my tube until the closing ceremony.
Go USA.
We have NBC doing the reporting for the Olympics. Cannot wait until a creditable Sport Channel like ESPN has the rights.
As NBC will railroad the games again. this am was a disgrace.
( they are losing the rating game anyway in the AM even though they fired Ann Curry as a scapegoat.

U.S. considers dipping flag at opening ceremony ( WHY)
The United States may break with a controversial tradition and dip its flag to Britain’s leaders at the opening ceremony for the London Olympics, U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) CEO Scott Blackmun said on Thursday.
“We’ve talked about that a little bit and you never know what is going to happen,” said Blackmun.
“We have traditions, Britain has traditions, everybody has traditions but we’re still talking internally but it is not an issue we see as a big issue.”

Michelle Obama greets US athletes in London
– Michelle Obama played a little tennis with kids, handed out some hugs and posed for photos with strapping athletes Friday as she formally began her stint leading the U.S. Olympics delegation.
The U.S. first lady told a crowd of young people that the Summer Games are about more than just gold medals – but also urged U.S. athletes in London to strive to claim top prizes all the same.
“Try to have fun. Try to breathe a little bit,” Mrs. Obama told American athletes at a breakfast in east London near the Olympic Park.

Olympic Games 2012: ‘Singular vision’ as £27m worth of secrets unveiled
Danny Boyle, the director of the London 2012 opening ceremony, has admitted it will be impossible to satisfy everyone
It must distil thousands of years of history into just over an hour, reflect a nation unto itself, promote Britain to the world, satisfy the demands of politicians and organisers, entertain 1bn viewers and bring the curtain up on the planet’s biggest sporting event. So no pressure.
Film director Danny Boyle, the creative director of Friday night’s £27m London 2012 opening ceremony, has already admitted that it will be an impossible task to satisfy everyone.
Instead, he has produced what has been described by overall ceremonies creative chief Stephen Daldry as a “singular vision”, with music by electronic duo Underworld and other top British acts and with a denouement they are confident will stay secret despite the best efforts of the media.

I am sure that the ceremonies will be great. But he is right you can’t please everyone.

David Cameron joins scramble to placate North Korea after flag fiasco
Prime minister says use of South Korean flag at Olympic football match was ‘honest mistake’ and Locog vows to raise its game
There may be worse diplomatic gaffes to make on the first evening of a sporting tournament watched by hundreds of millions, but it is not immediately obvious what they might be.
On Thursday David Cameron joined IOC president Jacques Rogge and Locog’s chief executive in a scramble to placate North Korea after the country’s women’s football team stormed off the pitch before their opening match when screens wrongly showed the South Korean flag.
The team’s fixture against Colombia, only the second event of the Olympics, was delayed by more than an hour as organisers made frantic edits to the offending introductory video, shown on large screens at Hampden Park in Glasgow, and offered grovelling apologies to the notoriously touchy nation.
North Korea’s IOC representative suggested that protocol officials should meet with team leaders before each medal ceremony to “check this is your flag or this is your national anthem”.

I would be upset if the flag of my country was wrong. Could you imagine the uproar in the states!
London 2012 Olympics: hundreds of fans turned away from archery after turning up without tickets
London 2012 suffered another setback this morning when spectators were turned away from Lord’s after arriving to watch the archery competition.
Billed as the first London-based event of these Olympics, the ranking round is traditionally held on the day of the opening ceremony and is used to seed male and female archers for the knockout rounds, which begin tomorrow. The event was listed as ‘unticketed’, meaning that it was not open to the public.
However, by the time the competition began at 9am, dozens of spectators had arrived at the cricket ground in north-west London in the hope of entry. The confusion appears to have sprung from a lack of clarity in pre-event literature, as well as wrong information distributed by a number of websites not affiliated to the Olympics.
The website of the London Olympics made it clear that spectators would not be allowed into the event. Elsewhere, however, the ranking round was listed as ‘unticketed’, giving it the same status as the cycling road races, at which spectators are welcome to turn up and watch for free.
