James Holmes make first court appearance in Colorado, Viewing live, the suspect seems despondent, eyes closed at some times during the court appearance with his public defender. Wearing a maroon short sleeve V neck shirt with a white one underneath. He seems to be staring into oblivion and exhibiting sadness. He did not speak. With his dyed bright curly red hair, his eyebrows were raised then lowered. Did not speak to his defense lawyers. The defense counsel has just been introduced to him this morning. Was the suspect coached? Was he acting the part of insanity? There is only a cell phone feed from the court-house.
He was read his rights. He was not be formally charged. Mandatory restraining order. The actual files of charges will not be until next Monday. Judge read a Rule 5 advisement.
The State Prosecutor is term limited. Only until November is she able to handle this case. Then, there will be another person assigned.
What this a video game he played in his reality? Was there a signs of mental illness that people close to him avoided? Where do we as a society find the answers?

Shooting suspect had federal grant, university says
he University of Colorado says shooting suspect James Holmes had a federal grant to study neuroscience.
University spokeswoman Jacque Montgomery said Saturday that Holmes was one of six neuroscience students at the school to get National Institutes of Health grant money. She didn’t know how much money he got.
The NIH says the university decides who gets the grants. Criteria for receiving the grant weren’t immediately clear.
The university says Holmes enrolled in the program last year and was withdrawing. Montgomery says Holmes didn’t indicate why he was withdrawing.
Montgomery says Holmes took an oral exam at the end of the semester that all students must pass to continue in the program. She says privacy laws prevent the school from releasing his score.

However, it didn’t take long for left-leaning pundits to try and connect Holmes to the Tea Party. Earlier today ABC News reporter Brian Ross speculated than another man named James Holmes listed on a local Tea Party site was possibly the suspected shooter.
Conservatives immediately lashed out at the report on ABC News and Ross for showing media bias so quickly. Some have called for Ross to be fired for his erroneous conclusion.
The author of the economics blog, Doo Doo Economics Blog, writes that Holmes was a member of the “black block” faction of the Occupy movement, but reportedly left the group because, ’It wasn’t radical enough.’ The blog post also includes screen shots from a site allegedly connected to Holmes who is reported to have written that, ‘He would kill everyone at the opening of the Batman movie in Colorado.’

Arlene Holmes, the mother of Colorado theater shooting suspect James Holmes, has suggested that ABC News mischaracterized her when it reported that her initial statement to the reporter, “you have the right person,” was a reference to her son.
“This statement is to clarify a statement made by ABC media. I was awakened by a call from a reporter by ABC on July 20 about 5:45 in the morning. I did not know anything about a shooting in Aurora at that time,” Holmes said in a statement this afternoon, read to the national press by attorney Lisa Damiani. “He asked if I was Arlene Holmes and if my son was James Holmes who lives in Aurora, Colorado. I answered yes, you have the right person. I was referring to myself.”

University of Colorado Denver officials talked about a graduate program the movie theater shooting suspect was in the process of withdrawing from but refused to answer questions about James Holmes.
At a news conference, they said Holmes received a stipend of $26,000 a year and his tuition was paid. But he began the process of dropping out of the program last month. The school has refused to say why.
One official says that to the best of their knowledge right now, they think they did everything they should have done.

The Demons of the Modern Rampage Killer ( a Long read but great insight)
I wish to know nothing about him other than the information necessary to try, convict, and punish him—and any data that might provide some sort of deterrence in preventing another such rampage.
In comparison to those he killed and maimed, and the legions of their relatives and friends, he is nothing. We the sophisticated with university degrees are supposed to know better: that hanging such a nightmarish criminal when convicted is both barbaric on our part and offers no statistical evidence that it will deter future such killers.
But society needs to be affirmed with a certainty that it has the clear sense of evil and good to try, convict, and punish the killer. Hanging Saddam or Eichmann, for all the controversies over their trials, at least offered some finality: they were evil and now are no more—and now we don’t worry whether Saddam was unloved, or the circumstances of Eichmann’s childhood.
In other words, I don’t care a whit whether the Aurora killer was a loner. I don’t care if he was unhappy or if he was on medication. Millions share such pathologies without killing a mouse. I don’t even know whether giving him swift justice will deter the next mass shooter. Yes, give the suspect expert legal counsel; call in all the psychiatrists imaginable; sequester the jury; ensure the judge is a pillar of jurisprudence; but if he is found guilty, I would prefer the gallows and quickly so, to remind us that we live in a civilization that prefers to remember the victims and to remember nothing at all of their killer.

I agree with you, no one will remember the victims names, unless related, but the killers name will forever be etched in the minds a thousands. I prefer to have a guilty person put to death immediately. What is the point?

Suspected mass murderer James Holmes sent a notebook filled with sketches of his proposed plot to a University of Colorado psychiatrist — but the package sat inside a college mailroom for a week before his attack, FoxNews.com reported.
Holmes — who dropped out of graduate school just before his killing spree — revealed “details about how he was going to kill people,” a source told Fox News.
He mailed the prophetic package to the shrink before last Friday’s attack, and it was received eight days before the shootings in Aurora, but no one opened it until three days after a dozen people were killed and 58 wounded.
