In 1996, President Bill Clinton signed bipartisan legislation that reformed welfare. Democrats from Carl Levin to John Kerry, and even Joe Biden supported the bipartisan reforms. President Obama, on the other hand, has been a consistent opponent of the law and recently dismantled the historic bill. When it comes to welfare reform, President Obama is out of step with the country, his party, and even his own Vice President.

Welfare voter push has GOP crying foul
The state has mailed out voter registration letters to nearly 500,000 welfare recipients, in a push sparked by a group led by former ACORN bigwigs that critics say is a naked bid to boost Democrats at the polls in November.
The letters, mailed last month by the state’s Department of Transitional Assistance, went out as Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown and Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren have been locked in a neck-and-neck race.
The deal requires state officials to contact the 477,944 welfare recipients who were on the books between June 1, 2011 and May 31, 2012. The mailings will cost the state $275,844.

Gingrich slams Obama on welfare revamp
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Wednesday accused President Barack Obama and his “even more radical” appointees of plotting to destroy the work requirement in the 1996 welfare reform law.
Obama and his aides “have a real fight and it is a fight they can’t possibly win,” he said.
“This happens to be an issue that is devastating for liberals… [many voters are] really offended by government giving away money for nothing,” Gingrich said during a press conference arranged by the Republican National Committee.
Obama’s deputies are pushing back against Mitt Romney’s new focus on the July decision by the department of Health and Human Services to relax welfare-to-work rules.

Speculation Grows That Obama May Drop Biden
Joe Biden’s second week-long vacation in little over a month is fueling speculation that President Barack Obama may be preparing to make a change in his running mate.
“The Vice President and Dr. Jill Biden will be in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. There are no public events scheduled,” Biden’s White House schedule reads. A month ago, Biden and his wife, took the week of July 4 to vacation, also in Rehoboth Beach, the Weekly Standard reported.
“Biden’s frequent errors and gaffes in office and on the campaign trail have been the source of much consternation for the Obama administration, and have resulted in strong calls for Biden to be dropped from the ticket.”
Obama and Democrats have been quick to shut down such speculation in the past.

If you happen to visit your neighborhood 7-Eleven, Walgreen’s or perhaps some other convenience store, you will probably stroll upon one of these new nifty looking advertisements hanging from the shelves. This is the new S.N.A.P (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) aka EBT, that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is pushing in hopes of eradicating the stigma that beneficiaries of food stamps sometimes incur. Yes, S.N.A.P., EBT or whatever Obama and his administration are calling them nowadays are in fact just good ol’ Food Stamps. And even though the USDA lays out what foods are eligible to be purchased under SNAP, lots of retailers will sell alcohol, cigarettes and other items prohibited under SNAP rules.

Emails show Obama administration involvement in killing non-union auto pensions
Matthew Boyle of the Daily Caller reports that internal emails show Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner was “the driving force” behind terminating the pensions of 20,000 non-union retirees from the Delphi auto parts manufacturing company, as part of the government’s bailout plan for General Motors. Union workers, on the other hand, “saw their pensions topped off and made whole.”
This decision was supposed to be made by the independent Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, which is meant to be free of political influence, so it can represent the interests of private-sector pensioners.

Share what you think people need to know about Rob Portman.” There’s a form field for you to fill out with any story you might have to tell that could be damaging to the Ohio Senator.

Over 100 Million Now Receiving Federal Welfare

A new chart set to be released later today by the Republican side of the Senate Budget Committee details a startling statistic: “Over 100 Million People in U.S. Now Receiving Some Form Of Federal Welfare.
The data come “from the U.S. Census’s Survey of Income and Program Participation shows that nearly 110,000 million individuals received a welfare benefit in 2011. (These figures do not include other means-tested benefits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit or the health insurance premium subsidies included in the President’s health care law. CBO estimates that the premium subsidies, scheduled to begin in 2014, will cover at least 25 million individuals by the end of the decade.)”
