New York City Walk to fight kidney disease October 14,2012. The Kidney Walk is a community fundraiser that calls attention to the prevention of kidney disease and the need for organ donation. The Walk is a non-competitive 5K (3.1 miles).
It’s an opportunity for patients, transplant recipients, organ donors, family, friends, groups and businesses to come together to support the millions of people with chronic kidney disease and to spread awareness for those at risk.

New York City high schools to offer “morning after” pills in a pilot program called CATCH, (Connecting Adolescents To Comprehensive Health). In 13 of New York City’s high schools, the Department of Education has authorized distribution of the controversial Plan B hormonal birth control in nurses offices without parental consent. Only 1-2% of parents selected to opt out of the program by form.
New York City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn stated,
High school students are very sexually active and getting pregnant, so we don’t have that luxury to think that they are too young to be engaged in conversations about contraception and sexual education.”
