The Beatitudes: Matthew 5:1-12 ESV

Matthew 5:1-12

5 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.

The Beatitudes

He said:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Healing Has Hope: Luke 10:9, Romans 5: 1, Psalm 41:3, Philippians 4:19.

Luke 10:9

Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you

Romans 5:1

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Psalm 41:3

The Lord sustains him on his sickbed;
in his illness you restore him to full health

Philippians 4:19

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Dear Lord, I have faith in God’s healing, I want to be open to healing, something more, than being cured. God controls who gets sick and who gets well, and all his decisions are for the good of his children, even if they may be very painful and long-lasting. It was God who subjected creation to futility and corruption, and he is the one who can liberate it again. We should pray for God’s help both to heal and to strengthen faith while we are unhealed. In this I pray Amen.

God and Gratitude: Revelation 5:13, Philippians 4:6-7 ESV

Revelation 5:13

“And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”

Philippians 4:6-7

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Dear Lord, I offer you thanks and praise, O God, for Your many gifts and blessings. You are with me in times of joy and peace, as well as in days of pain and sorrow. Grant me a continued share in Your grace each day, that I may live so a to be a cause of gratitude for others, with a peaceful heart and a contended spirit. In this I pray, Amen

Psalms for Hope: Psalm 121:7-8, Psalm 42:11

Psalm 121:7-8

The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.

Psalm 42:11

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.

Hope is a small word, but it is one of the most powerful. Why? Because in hope lies the power of the human soul to turn to God and live as if His promises are going to come true.

Hope is for now, it is for today, and it is for tomorrow too.

Joshua 5:12

12 And the manna ceased the day after they ate of the produce of the land. And there was no longer manna for the people of Israel, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

The Lord brings His children through challenging situations, not to destroy them but rather to prepare them for what lies ahead. Be assured that even in your most trying times that God has not forgotten His promise to you. You may be eating manna today but your time for milk and honey awaits you. It is your time to possess the promise.
