Staten Island Sandy victims pack New York City Town Hall, November 29, 2012. More than 1,000 people went to New Dorp High School to ask FEMA and other agencies what to do about their damaged homes and neighborhoods.
People were turned away at door and could not fit into auditorium.
Nicole Chati of New Dorp Beach said,
These people are frustrated, Lives were lost. My house — I can rebuild the house. My neighbor is dead.”
Tom Saglembeni of New Dorp Beach exclaimed,
What’s gonna happen to our neighborhood? Are they condemning our neighborhood?”
Scott and Deirdre McGrath injected,
I’m homeless. My home has no gas, water, sewage, but yet I’m still sleeping in there. I have dust and mold that he [Department of Health NYC] is telling me to avoid, where am I supposed to go? I’ve gone to FEMA, SBA, apartments.com, Robert Defalco Realty. I’ve gone to news, I still cannot find an apartment, where am I supposed to live? I feel just as lost as I did before I came here.”
Other people yelled,
I have a question!” “No one is doing what’s right for us!” “You’re a piece of crap!” “Don’t run around and pass the buck, from the FEMA guy to Department of Buildings guy. Help us, answer our questions.”

I cannot believe how the MSM forgot about Staten Island. as they put it the other parts of New York City. I have been there many times. Beautiful neighborhood, hills. Close knit community.
Just give you back a sense of life, but it will never be the same. But give you time to rebuild, a place to call you home. New York City is suppose to be the example for the rest of the US.

Sandy was a nonpartisan disaster and here’s a bipartisan letter to Gov. Cuomo — who’s in DC lobbying for federal aid to rebuild — from GOP Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis, Republican state Sen. Andrew Lanza and Democratic state Sen. Diane Savino, all of whom represent hard-hit Staten Island on another way the state might help.
“With home repairs and other expenses cutting so deeply into New Yorkers’ budgets, we are proposing that the state waive its portion of the sales tax on the purchase of new vehicles for those who lost their previous vehicle in the storm,” they write. “The elimination of this fee is the least we can do to help New Yorkers afford this essential purchase when they are already facing so much financial and personal stress as a result of the storm.”

Many homes look like the one in this photo – just sitting there, missing portions of their walls, no furniture or personal belongings, and sections of dry wall torn out with other sections still in tact. What I’m getting at is that although there has been tons of cleanup done so far, this is just the beginning. New Dorp Beach, and many other neighborhoods hit hard by Sandy, will be cleaning up for months, if not years to come.

New Jersey Governor Christie seeks 100 percent FEMA reimbursement for Sandy
In a letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency dated November 30 and released on Monday, Christie said the economic damage from the storm could be nearly $40 billion.
FEMA generally reimburses states for 75 percent of emergency clean-up and repair costs from natural disasters. The agency can cover more, but state officials must ask for the relief.
Christie previously asked for 90 percent reimbursement.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo asked for full reimbursement for qualifying expenses not long after the storm subsided. He has estimated that New York needs nearly $42 billion to recover from the storm and prepare for future severe weather.

Why do they think they should be reimbursed 100%. Even the people in New Orleans were satistifed with 75%. If they get 100%, it will set a precedent for the total failure of FEMA. This is disgusting to see this greed by the Govs.
