Where is Obama? Staten Island residents plead for help 3 days after Hurricane Sandy. Staten Island is one of the 5 boroughs of New York City.
Councilman James Oddo (R-Mid Island/Brooklyn) commented,
This is like a war scene, I said to myself, I shouldn’t be on the road, and neither should anybody else. Between the flooding and the downed trees it was difficult navigating.”
OEM or whomever making the call cant have all citys pumping resources for tunnels we need them in the communities still under feet of water

Bloomberg Diverts Food, Generators from Devastated Staten Island to NYC Marathon
Fresh off his “climate disruption”-driven endorsement of President Obama, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has chosen to divert critical food supplies and power generators from desperate residents of Staten Island to Sunday’s New York City Marathon. Gothamist reports:
Staten Island BP calling on city to cancel NYC Marathon on Sunday after Hurricane Sandy
“I just assumed it was canceled,” said Molinaro. “My God. What we have here is terrible, a disaster. If they want to race, let them race with themselves. This is no time for a parade. A marathon is a parade. Now is the time to put your shoulder to the wheel. If they want to prepare for something, let them prepare for the election, not a marathon.”
Molinaro said he was in the process of discussing it with Mayor Bloomberg when the mayor’s phone line went dead.
Just heard that the NYC hotels will NOT kick out any NY’s who are staying there because of the storm. The runners that have registrations are out of luck. Their rooms will not be available to them! New Yorkers looking out for New Yorkers, not politicians!
As Staten Island Drowns, Bloomberg Plans for NYC Marathon
We can’t expect the major media to report on the ludicrous behavior of Mayor Bloomberg. He is the darling of Wall Street and owns a major media firm. These people always make sure that they cover each others rear ends. I’m sure that Sunday we will hear renderings of how Bloomberg has brought NYC back for this celebration as news outlets praise him.
What is so important that this race must be held less than a week after Hurricane Sandy? Perhaps the sponsors are forcing it to be conducted; perhaps these self-involved runners don’t want to give up their hotel rooms or their air reservations merely because scores of residents have drowned and thousands are homeless a mile or so away.
Obama got his photo ops and the people got nothing. People need to stop depending on the gov’t. to do anything for them. The only one that has your back are your neighbors and friends.
Surviving Hurricane Sandy: The Island that New York City Forgot
Staten Island has always been the forgotten borough of New York City. I’ve lived here all my life and, after Hurricane Sandy, the island is feeling as neglected as ever. You can’t escape the devastation here. My family came through relatively unscathed–though they are mostly huddled in my brother’s house. But they, like all residents of the island, were witness to the terrifying power of the storm.
“The Mayor here doesn’t want to come and they are pulling bodies out left and right,” says Michael Harven, who lives with Ida Vernat and their 11 year old daughter in an area called Ocean Breeze. They all escaped – along with their small terrier – just when the floodwaters began to rise. “When we came out and saw the water coming across the street we left,” says Harven. “The water rose to about ten feet high in the area so people where trapped.” He and Vernat found out today that their house had a yellow sticker which means that though it is damaged, they can return to live in it. Still, says Vernat, “My daughter doesn’t want to come back and see this. She’s scared.”
Why doesn’t the officials take those generators that are in the park for the marathon runners and take them to those on Staten Island. Isn’t that a no brainer!
Its such as you learn my thoughts! You seem to know so much approximately this, like you wrote the guide in it or something.
I think that you can do with some p.c. to force the message home a
little bit, however instead of that, this is magnificent blog.
An excellent read. I will certainly be back.
