National Dance Day, July 25

I believe I was delivered from my mother at birth doing a 180 degree grand je·té.

Been a devoted dancer since age 9.  Never stopped 5 decades later and never will.

I traveled to NYC at age 12 to perform at the Dance Caravan conventions. Wanted to become a Rockette, but did not grow tall enough as you must have had a height of 5’7″.  Also, started choreography at my yearly recitals at age 12. Performed on local TV Philadelphia talent shows also did the areas competition circuit.

At 18, enrolled at Temple University where I studied at a professional level. Had a taste of the Masters from Pennsylvania Ballet, Vaganova, and many Professors of Modern dance.

While at Temple University I was also a NFL Philadelphia Eagle’s Cheerleader and a 2 year Varsity Gymnast.

My first National choreography was in Canada of the CFL.  I was the director/choreographer of the Ottawa Rough Riders Rhythm Riders Cheerleader/Dancers. We did perform at the Grey Cup, the Superbowl of Canada in Montreal 81′ season.

I had decided to become a professional teacher but the stage was calling my feet. At age 28, first professional dinner theater employed by the legendary Dick Foster’s Spellbound.

In 1986, I left for the entertainment of Cruise ships in Bermuda with Greg Thompson Productions.

I also performed and choreographed in TV pilots, Industrial shows, and nightclubs.

Ballet is the base of all movement and is a must.  But Jazz is my favorite.

This day I celebrate all forms of the Dance.

Martini’ s Fitness and Zumba Classes, South Jersey.

I had a blast today my dear friend. Back to back classes, like old times. Liam simmered down and  became the little boy I know and love so 10 years later. See our children have grown up in gyms/movement babysitting spaces. But, you have a precious young man at eleven years as he listened or overhead every conversation. Did you notice Martini?  I watched him lay right beside you while you taught.  That is oh so special.

Now, it is time to spread your wings and fly.  You can soar to great heights. Let yourself go. You got to go girl. You met John and the spaces in my gym, they are so beautiful.  The people who work there are people persons which is very rare.  The members are totally awesome.  Come to my gym and take control, it is there.  Go and run with it.  It is really a special place.  Did you hear that sound system in the spin room?  That is my space.  I showed you my bike.  Please, teach there so I can have my Martini back . That is why I came to take your Zumba and fitness class last night.  You have a gift. Now it is cultivated.   Use it to the fullest extent. I forgot how awesome your workout classes are. Always inspired with that Irish flare. I envision you in Philadelphia, Yes, in the gym in the sky.Yes, the sky is the limit. You are awesome.  As once again, God has blessed me. Thank you Dear Jesus.

Martini, you must remember I am a classically trained dancer from Temple University.  Remember I have taken you to my teachers that have influenced my dance training in Philly, Melissa and Rex.  I have studied  dance and used gyms the past 50 years in New York City, Philly, Ottawa, Montreal, Boston, New Orleans,  Las Vegas  Los Angelos, Cocoa Beach and  Bermuda. Always cross trained to make myself a stronger dancer. Ballet, Modern, and Jazz are my life’s passion. Plus Tap was my first art form. But I can do any form of movement. I discover new and innovative teachers, then I share!
That is who I am. I have been a teacher all my life but being a student, is much better! Because you learn again.  Life is a continuous  learning experience. I will never stop absorbing or acquiring knowledge.
All my love,  Donna
