Capt. Kathy Moore, the Coast Guard incident commander said,

We are working as safely and quickly as possible to move through the progression of this cleanup and get the Paulsboro community back to normal, More than 200 technical experts and responders are working on the incident and we’re assembling the specialized equipment and resources we need to complete operations.”

Paulsboro, New Jersey, shelter in place order was issued to residents have been advised, by way of Reverse 911 due to higher than normal levels of vinyl chloride leaked in air, air quality from the train derailment Friday, December 3, 2012.

The Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is also being delayed in issuing using a statement with the cause of the accident but are still conducting interviews.

US Coast Guard captain Kathy Moore repeated,

When we began to detect these heightened levels, we pulled the responders, we pulled out work crews, and we pulled local officials away from the derailment site.”

NTSB Chairperson Deborah A.P. Hersman said,

The first concern is evacuating the hazardous materials and making sure it’s safe to enter (the area).”
