Libya militias storm US consulate over ‘insulting’ film
Militiamen in Libya have stormed the US consulate in Benghazi, the country’s second largest city.
Reports say they were protesting against a US-made film that is allegedly insulting to the Prophet Muhammad, and set fire to the building.
The building is said to have burnt down. It is thought nobody was in the consulate at the time.
Earlier, protesters in Egypt breached the wall at the US embassy in Cairo and tore down a flag over the film.
The film that sparked the protest is said to have been produced by US pastor Terry Jones and co-produced by some Egyptian Copt expatriates.
In the Cairo incident, the American flag, which was flying at half mast to mark the 9/11 attacks, was replaced by an Islamist banner.
Thousands of protesters had gathered outside the US embassy in the Egyptian capital.
Egyptian protesters condemned what they said was the humiliation of the Prophet of Islam under the pretext of freedom of speech.

So, they burned our American flag and replaced it with their own Islamist one. Al-Qaeda leader promises more attacks on U.S., Israel
n the weeks leading up to the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Muslim clerics and academics across the Arab world publicly trafficked in anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, blaming Israel and American Jews for the attacks that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 Americans and destroyed New York City’s Twin Towers and a wing of the Pentagon.
“We consider anyone hostile towards the Muslims to be an enemy, but all in good time,” Al-Zawahiri said, according to MEMRI.
“When we manage to attack Israel … Al-Qaeda has already attacked Israel,” he added, taking credit for a synagogue attack in Tunisia earlier this year. “If the regimes of the Arab countries bordering Israel did not prevent it, Al-Qaeda wants to carry out attacks against Israel.”
Al-Zawahiri justified 9/11 by stating that U.S. government officials died as a result.
Moreover, the Arab Spring was possible “solely because of the actions of the Jihadist Salafi movement,” of which Al Qaeda is a member,” Al-Zawahiri said, adding: “You said that we killed civilians in America. That’s not true.”
