Mitt Romney’s surprisingly hilarious speech at the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner. A charity gala organized by the Archdiocese of New York.

Brilliant, simply brilliant.

“I’m saving a seat for you,” an invitation from Barack Obama. Another email in my inbox today. Please donate to my campaign and have a chance to have dinner with me. Obama is including the airfare and lodging. The donation is up from $3 to $5 or whatever.  Can this man give it a rest for one day?

Friend —

I’m only going to get to sit down to dinner with grassroots supporters on this campaign one last time.

It’s one of the most meaningful things we do, and represents exactly the kind of politics we believe in: All of us, at one table, together.

So if you’re someone who is helping to build this campaign, I want to meet you. I want to thank you in person. And I’d love to hear what’s on your mind.

If you haven’t participated in one of these before, now’s the time because this is our last opportunity to sit down together before the end of the campaign — I hope you’ll take me up on it.

Your donation of $5 or whatever you’re able to chip in will automatically enter you:

Thanks.

Barack

P.S. — Flight and hotel are on us. All you have to do is come and eat.

As always, thank you. Now, skip that pizza and send in a donation.

Just an email from Michelle Obama in my inbox today. Her husband Barack Obama needs money for reelection in November, 2012.

Friend —

I know your life is full — with work, or school, or family — and yet you still find the time to help out when you can.

You may have a tight budget, but you give what you can afford.

A woman recently told the campaign her family skipped a pizza dinner at their favorite place so that they could make a difference in this election.

That is the commitment that drives this campaign.

If you can support Barack with a donation today, please know it makes a huge difference. If we win, it will be because of what you did at moments like this:

Thanks,

Michelle

P.S. — It meant a lot to me to speak with you and everyone else last night. Thank you for everything you do.

I can’t believe I’m typing this. I can’t believe I received this in my inbox from Obama For America

Friend —

I’m so jealous of you that I can barely write the rest of this email.

Imagine shooting hoops with Carmelo Anthony, Patrick Ewing, Sheryl Swoopes, Kyrie Irving, and Alonzo Mourning. Oh, and you’ll get to meet President Obama and Michael Jordan over dinner, too.

Now stop dreaming and make it happen. You and a guest of your choice could join President Obama and some of the greatest basketball stars for a special night at the Obama Classic.

Pitch in $3 or whatever you can, and you’ll be automatically entered for a chance to win.

Hit the court with Patrick Ewing and Melo? Trade stories with the President? This is the kind of stuff your kids will tell their kids, and no one will believe it until you show them a photo.

Don’t worry if suiting up with hoops stars isn’t your thing.

I know you’ve got a kid or a friend who would love nothing more than to play with their heroes while you cheer them on from a courtside seat.

If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to chip in and support the President, it’s time to get off the bench.

Donate $3 to automatically get your name in the hat:

https://donate.barackobama.com/Obama-Classic

Even though I’m jealous, I hope you win.
